There are many breeders that remove the dewclaws but I do not. The above article and many other explain the use of the dewclaw. There has also been data collected in regards to dewclaw removal leading to arthritis in that location. The dewclaw can get caught in chains but we do not support the idea of keeping any dog on a chain. Dewclaws have also had a reputation of getting injured in the field but we believe that the chance of that is less than the benefit of keeping them. However if a buyer wants dewclaws removed we recommend that they do that when the dog is spayed or neutered.
